Lucknow: In a surprise move, Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav elevated party MLA from Amethi assembly constituency Gayatri Prajapati appointing him secretary of the party’s national executive. Amidst talks of a possible SP-Congress alliance, political observers were of the view that the move has been made to accomodate Gayatri in case the SP has to vacate the Amethi seat which has been a bastion of the Gandhi family for decades. Serving presently as cabinet minister for Transport in Akhilesh government, Gayatari had earlier made headlines as minister for mining after a case was filed before the Supreme Court alleging large scale corruption in the department. The matter was referred to the CBI for preliminary inquiry and the issue is pending for directives from the apex court. Gayatri is known to be close to Mulayam and his family.
