Note ban curbs corruption: Venkaiah

Vijayawada: Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the decision to demonetise high-value notes for long term benefits, unearth black money and root out corruption in the country. The senior BJP leader strongly defended the note ban and said people have to face problems in short term to ensure better future for their children. He addressed the party workers on Good Governance Day, at a private hospital on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed on the need to employ surgical measures like demonetisation to weed out corruption, which was plaguing the country like cancer. He said that the Prime Minister has been trying to transform India into Digital India by encouraging cashless transactions. Referring to the problems being faced by crores of people due to cash crunch, Naidu said that the people have to face problems in order to gain benefits in future. “It is like swallowing a bitter pill to cure the illness. I also feel pity as a large number of people are standing in queue lines in the banks to withdraw money, but the move was necessary,” he said and asserted that golden days were ahead. The Union Minister came down heavily on the Congress leaders for their remarks on the BJP government over demonetisation. “Ambanis, Adani and Vijay Mallya got loans worth thousands of crores rupees during the Congress rule. BJP came to power only two and half years ago, most industrialists got bank loans during the 50-year rule of Congress party,” he remarked. He said the NDA government was observing Good Governance Day on December 25 to mark the birth day of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. “Vajpayee is a man of noble character. He is responsible for laying four lane quadrilateral connecting four corners of India,” he said. He said good governance includes transparency and accountability by providing basic needs to the people. He listed out the welfare schemes being implemented by BJP government for farmers, youth, women and other sections of the society.
